OUR MOSES
On March 7, 1981, a new body of believers was born in order to establish a church by the Will of God. This assembly took place at The Haven of Rest Baptist Church located at 7901 S. Stony Island Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. To this body of Baptist believers, the name ‘The Way of Truth Church Baptist’ was given. The body of believers chose Elder Charles W. Lee Jr. as their Shepherd. The late Elder Dr. John L. Conner was the officiating Minister. Our first church service was held on March 8, 1981 at Cage Memorial Chapel, located at 7651 S. Jeffery Boulevard in Chicago, Illinois. The membership of our church increased very rapidly and we soon outgrew the facilities at Cage Memorial. On March 22, 1981, we moved to another temporary location; The First Church of Love and Faith Fellowship Hall located at 2140 W. 79th Street in Chicago, Illinois where Elder Lucius Hall is Pastor. With our prayers being answered, we were able to find a church to purchase. It needed much work and during the time we were at our temporary location, we worked diligently. On October 3, 1982, we marched into our new church home located at 3600 S. Vincennes Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. We continued to be steadfast in prayer, trusting and believing that God had a greater blessing for us. God gave our Pastor a vision that we were to go forward under the direction of the Holy Spirit. There were times when we were perplexed, doubts entered our minds and Satan tried to persuade us that God was not with us. However, our Pastor, being led and directed by the Holy Spirit, continued to encourage his flock to trust in the Lord. The long awaited day came when we found our new beautifully constructed edifice. On September 8, 1991, we marched into our present location, 6456 S. California Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. The Way of Truth Church Baptist was the first black church in the Marquette Park area. On November 4, 1993, God blessed us to have our Mortgage Burning Service. In April 1997, we purchased the property at 6450 S. California Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. On May 4, 1997 we had our first baptism Service in our newly installed baptism pool. October 2, 1998, God blessed us to install air conditioning in our main sanctuary. The air conditioning was paid off in June 1999. We started our first television broadcast in a regularly scheduled time slot on CAN-TV on February 6, 1999. In June 2000 the mortgage of the house (6450) was completely paid off. On October 11, 2000 God blessed us with another television broadcast on WJYS. In April of 2000, we discontinued our television broadcast on WJYS because God had led our Pastor onward and upward. In September 2001, we purchased the property at 6500 S. California Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. On the morning of Sunday, December 28, 2008, while being faithful, God called our Pastor, our Moses, home to eternity.

On April 1, 2009, Minister Daniel William Lee Sr. was installed as the second Pastor of The Way of Truth Church Baptist. Also, Deacon James T. Johnson was installed as the first Chairman of the Deacon Board. Since the installation service, those visions that Dr. Charles Lee was not able to accomplish have now become a reality. The men and women’s restrooms have been completely remodeled. Our ‘overflow room’ has new carpet and has been beautifully painted. The foyer has been equipped with new light fixtures, floor tiles and has also been beautifully painted. The remodeling of the lower level began after a flood in July 2010. One of Pastor Charles Lee’s main objectives for 2008 was to install a LED Marquee; God blessed us to do so on October 3, 2010. Also on October 3, 2010, the first Evangelists of The Way of Truth Church Baptist were licensed. God has continued to bless us naturally as well as spiritually in the year of 2011. He has allowed us to do more renovations to our church. We have repainted the sanctuary and replaced the carpet and tile. God has also allowed us to implement new ministries such as the Hospitality Ministry and a new Beautifying Ministry. We have also been blessed to open up our facility to feed the less fortunate once a month. The Way of Truth Church Baptist continues to reap the blessings from God in 2012. More renovations have taken place throughout the year. Each property has a new roof. The garage has been refaced and also has a new roof. The edifice now has new front doors. New programs have been developed and added to the ministry as well. We are now able to stream all of our services live on the World Wide Web. Our facility houses the Safe Haven Spring and Summer Program sponsored by Chicago Public Schools; in order to provide students with a safe environment andnutritious meals while they are out of school. New Foundation Outreach Ministry was established in order to increase the standard of living and meet the needs of the less fortunate in the community. In 2008, Dr. Charles Lee was preparing Isaiah Ferguson to become an Ordained Deacon. On August 12, 2012 Isaiah Ferguson, Jason Cannon Sr. and Jason Oliver Sr. under the leadership of Bishop Daniel W. Lee Sr., were ordained as Deacons. Also on that day, Evangelist Andrea Edwards, Evangelist Sandra Hayes and Minister Jesse McCurty were ordained. God continues to bless and add to His church.
Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.-Jeremiah 29:12. We thank and praise God for His church and for the man of God; for our Pastor is a man of God! And it shall come to pass afterward, That I will pour out my spiritupon all flesh; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Yourold men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see Visions-Joel 2:28
